RECAP: Berlin Prevention Works Coalition Participates in National Night Out

Berlin Prevention Works Coalition and sector members join together for National Night Out, on August 1, 2023, to promote a safe, positive community in Berlin.

Berlin Prevention Works coalition collaborates annually with Law Enforcement sector Chief Downing and Officer Curr of the Berlin Police Department on a National Night Out activity for the community.

"The annual environmental strategy to reduce risk factors, increase protective factors, and school readiness engage neighbors in a fun-safe Henry Park setting while providing more access to community resources," Dr. Darlene Jackson-Bowen, Berlin Prevention Works Program Director, said in a letter of thanks to the coalition members and community partners who helps bring it all together.

The County Commissioner Diana Purnell for contributed 200 book bags with supplies. Leaders of the coalition found Purnell's partnership with the coalition and BRAVE, Inc. to be "vital to our sustainability,".

In addition to partnering with the County Commissioner, BPW also recognizes Tara Wampler of Aetna Better Health of Maryland for the hygiene packets. Along with our Board of Education Parent-Teacher Liasion Terry Smith, for the additional six-foot tables. Leaders of BPW also recognized coalition members Glendalyn Harris, Clara Jackson, and Charlene Lipscomb for their assistance in setting up the vendor tabling, disseminating educational material, incentives with book bags, and capacity building with parents and youth alike.

Lastly, the coalition acknowledges the very ones we do it for, the youth! BPW sends praise to youth leaders, Aliyah Smith, and council members, Aubrey Jackson-Bowen, Robert Carpenter, and Amiyah Steele who diligently supported our annual initiative with presence and deeds!
